Background Information:

Yuntian Chen is an assistant professor (Ph.D. Supervisor) at Eastern Institute of Technology, Ningbo. He graduated from the Department of Energy and Power Engineering at Tsinghua University with a dual bachelor's degree in Economics from Peking University. He obtained his Ph.D. in Mechanics from Peking University ahead of schedule, earning honors as an outstanding graduate. He previously conducted postdoctoral research at Peng Cheng Laboratory.

His research interests include scientific machine learning, focusing on knowledge embedding and knowledge discovery. He has published over 70 papers in prestigious international journals, including Science, Nature Communications, Journal of Fluid Mechanics, Journal of Computational Physics, Applied Energy, Advanced Science, Geophysical Research Letters, and Remote Sensing of Environment, as well as in leading computer science conferences (AAAI, KDD, CVPR, ICML, ICLR). He holds 23 authorized invention patents and has led 14 research projects, including tasks under China's National Key R&D Program, securing over 15 million RMB in competitive research funding over the past five years.

He serves as Assistant Editor of Advances in Applied Energy and Guest Editor of Applied Energy, and leads the Laboratory of Artificial Intelligence and Energy Systems at the Ningbo Institute of Digital Twin. He has organized sessions in more than ten international conferences and delivered over 30 presentations at academic events worldwide. His research achievements have attracted extensive coverage from media such as CCTV News, Reference News, South China Morning Post, and the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS).

He has been selected for the Young Elite Scientist Sponsorship Program of the China Association for Science and Technology. He is committed to transforming scientific machine learning technologies into industrial applications, with outcomes successfully applied by leading enterprises including Datang Group, CNPC, Sinopec, POWERCHINA, and CITIC Dicastal.

Research Field:

I am dedicated to developing Scientific Machine Learning models that achieve a bidirectional coupling of knowledge and data, and applying these models to fluid mechanics and clean energy fields.

Yuntian’s research focuses particularly on knowledge embedding and knowledge discovery. By integrating knowledge-driven and data-driven approaches, he aims to create scientifically sound, mathematically rigorous, and computationally stable and efficient machine learning models. Additionally, he leverages AI to extract governing equations from observational and experimental data, enabling the automatic learning of previously unknown physical knowledge.

Moreover, he has established a virtuous cycle between knowledge generation and practical application, connecting fundamental theory, applied research, and technology transfer. This not only yields tangible outcomes but also cultivates "AI scientists" who deeply understand and advance foundational theories, thus fostering scientific progress.
