Professor Jingxu Zhu serves as Acting Vice President at Eastern Institute of Technology, Ningbo, overseeing industry-academia-research collaboration. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada, a Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Engineering, a Fellow of the Engineering Institute of Canada, a Distinguished Professor at Western University, and a Canada Research Chair.
Prof. Jingxu Zhu received his B. Eng. degree in Chemical Engineering from Tsinghua University in China in 1982 where he also taught until 1984. He received his Ph.D. degree in Chemical Engineering at the University of British Columbia in Canada. He then worked for Shell as a researcher before joining the University of Western Ontario in 1993, where he became full professor in 1999.
Professor Jingxu Zhu is an internationally renowned chemical engineering expert and a world leader in particle technology, having established North America's first research center dedicated to this field. He has published over 550 papers and supervised more than 260 graduate students and postdoctoral fellows, including over 20 senior executives at leading North American companies, over 30 university professors, and several Fellows of the Canadian Academy of Engineering. He has also developed numerous practical technologies and holds more than 60 patents. Notable innovations include an environmentally friendly micro-nano particle spraying platform, a dry powder inhalation platform for pulmonary drug delivery, a dry pharmaceutical processing and coating platform, and a high-efficiency particle fluidized-bed system for wastewater treatment. Most of these technologies have been implemented in industrial applications, and more than ten of his former students have founded companies in China and abroad.
He currently serves as a Council Member and International Affairs Chair of the Canadian Academy of Engineering. He was recognized with the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars (Overseas) in 1999. Professor Jingxu Zhu has received several prestigious awards, including the Syncrude Canada Innovation Award of Canadian Society for Chemical Engineering in 1999, the Bantrel Award in Design and Industrial Practice in 2007 for, the R.S. Jane Memorial Award in 2013, the K.Y. Lo Medal, the Engineering Medal from Professional Engineers Ontario, Particle Technology Lifetime Achievement Award by the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE), the Premier’s Research Excellence Award of Ontario Government, and the Chinese Canadian Legend Award. He is also listed in Canadian Who's Who.
Professor Jingxu Zhu has been dedicated to fostering international collaboration between China and other countries. He has jointly supervised over 60 graduate students with Chinese scholars, hosted more than 100 visiting students and scholars, established multiple joint education programs, and facilitated technology transfer to China, leading to the creation of several startup companies. Fifteen years ago, he founded and served as the inaugural President of the Global Academy of Chinese Chemical Engineers, which has since become the largest international exchange platform for Chinese chemical engineering scholars worldwide.
