EIT and University of Glasgow Sign Strategic Partnership Agreement

The Eastern Institute of Technology, Ningbo (EIT) and the University of Glasgow have formally signed a strategic partnership agreement. Professor Chunmiao Zheng, Vice President of EIT, and Professor João Ponciano, Co-Director of the Centre for Educational Development and Innovation at the University of Glasgow, signed the Memorandum of Understanding on behalf of their respective institutions.

Under the agreement, the two universities will collaborate on undergraduate exchange programs, integrated bachelor's-master's pathways, and related initiatives—marking a significant step forward in international talent development for both sides.

Professor João Ponciano first visited EIT in October of last year and spoke highly of the university's educational philosophy, campus facilities, and the caliber of its students and faculty. At the signing ceremony, Professor Chunmiao Zheng welcomed him back and expressed gratitude for his instrumental role in advancing the partnership.

He noted that the University of Glasgow, as the fourth-oldest university in the English-speaking world and a founding member of the Russell Group, enjoys global renown in engineering, law, business, and other fields. He emphasized that as a "High-Caliber Foundation, Compact yet Distinguished, Research Oriented, and Globally Engaged" research university, EIT regards high-level global engagement as essential to enhancing educational quality. He looks forward to building on the undergraduate exchange program as a foundation for deepening substantive cooperation and jointly cultivating globally competitive talent.

The Signing Ceremony

Professor João Ponciano acknowledged the gracious reception extended by EIT and remarked that the University of Glasgow is deeply committed to providing students worldwide with cross-cultural and interdisciplinary academic platforms. He expressed hope that both institutions would seize this agreement as an opportunity to advance the partnership from a broad framework into concrete implementation. He believes that the diverse exchange opportunities enabled by this agreement will offer EIT students enriching academic and cross-cultural experiences at the University of Glasgow, thereby broadening their global perspectives.

Following the signing ceremony, Professor João Ponciano delivered a lecture titled "Principles of Contract Law for Engineers," in which he elucidated core legal concepts—such as offer and acceptance, and remedies for breach of contract—using practical case studies drawn from engineering contexts.

This agreement represents an important milestone in EIT's ongoing global engagement strategy. In recent years, the university has steadily expanded its collaborations with leading institutions worldwide, establishing a portfolio of exemplary partnerships in student exchange and joint research. These efforts aim to provide faculty and students with multi-tiered, wide-ranging platforms for international development.
