Recently, Dr. Zhangxing Chen, Chair Professor at Eastern Institute of Technology, Ningbo, member of the U.S. National Academy of Engineering, and foreign member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, was honored with the Outstanding Scientist Award under the Three Grand Awards by the Chinese Association for Science and Technology, U.S.A.

At the 2025 Global Innovation Summit & The 33rd CAST-USA Annual Convention, he shared this honor with Dr. Brian K. Kobilka, Nobel Laureate in Chemistry and member of the U.S. National Academy of Sciences.

This year's Three Grand Awards were presented to three internationally renowned leaders in technological innovation. Dr. Zhangxing Chen and Dr. Brian K. Kobilka were jointly awarded the Outstanding Scientist Award. Dr. Jianhua Yu, member of the U.S. National Academy of Inventors and professor at the School of Medicine, University of California, Irvine, received the Outstanding Innovation Award.

It is worth noting that Dr. Shing-Tung Yau, the first Chinese recipient of the Fields Medal and foreign member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, was awarded the Outstanding Scientist Award by the Chinese Association for Science and Technology, U.S.A. in 2018.

Dr. Zhangxing Chen joined Eastern Institute of Technology, Ningbo as a full-time professor in 2023. He is primarily engaged in reservoir engineering and numerical simulation research and is a renowned scientist in the fields of computational mathematics, unconventional oil and gas, and petroleum engineering. He has conducted extensive pioneering research in areas such as seepage mechanics, enhanced oilsands recovery processes, theories and methods of reservoir numerical simulation, visualization technologies, key hydrogen production technologies, and the research, transfer, and application of CCUS (Carbon Capture, Utilization, and Storage) technologies, achieving a series of innovative results with global impact.

Dr. Zhangxing Chen has also received numerous honors and awards, including the Chinese Government Friendship Award, The Outstanding Leadership in Alberta Technology Award, the CAIMS-Fields Industrial Mathematics Prize, U.S. Ford Presidential Award, and the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) Technical Achievement Award, among others. 

The “Three Grand Awards” by the Chinese Association for Science and Technology, U.S.A. were established in 2015 by the association. Their purpose is to recognize successful role models among Chinese scientists and entrepreneurs in North America, highlight the outstanding contributions and achievements of the new generation of Chinese professionals, encourage and inspire overseas scholars to benefit humanity, and promote unity and collaboration among Chinese scholars. The awards cover three major categories: Outstanding Scientist Award, Outstanding Innovation Award, and Outstanding Innovative Entrepreneur Award.
